With reference to paragraph 7, I
may say that plaster ceilings are being removed in connect-
-ion with annual repairs as funds are available to cover
the cost.

The attention of the Head Master
has been drawn to the criticisms contained in the report
of the Independent Examiners.
In this connection it is right to
point out that only 20 per centum of the School is examined
by them; that the same boy is not examined in more than a
quarter of the subjects taught in his class; and that as
the examination is held only once a year the same boys are
very rarely twice examined in the same class.
Thus at the examination under
review about 99 per centum of the boys in Classes II, III
and IV were boys who had been about 4 months at new work.
6.
The system under which slates are
corrected enables more work to be got through in the class
hour and as the Master checks about half the slates chosen
at random the supervision would seem sufficient.

I have adopted the suggestion of
the Examiners for the holding of Masters' Meetings, and I
enclose a rule on the subject for Your Lordship's approval,
nclosure 3.
