With reference to paragraph 7, I

may say that plaster ceilings are being removed in connect-

-ion with annual repairs as funds are available to cover

the cost.

5.

The attention of the Head Master

has been drawn to the criticisms contained in the report

of the Independent Examiners.

In this connection it is right to

point out that only 20 per centum of the School is examined

by them; that the same boy is not examined in more than a

quarter of the subjects taught in his class; and that as

the examination is held only once a year the same boys are

very rarely twice examined in the same class.

Thus at the examination under

review about 99 per centum of the boys in Classes II, III

and IV were boys who had been about 4 months at new work.

6.

The system under which slates are

corrected enables more work to be got through in the class

hour and as the Master checks about half the slates chosen

at random the supervision would seem sufficient.

77.

I have adopted the suggestion of

the Examiners for the holding of Masters' Meetings, and I

enclose a rule on the subject for Your Lordship's approval,
